Connect Free.fr Email with IMAP

Free (free.fr) works with Patriot Mail and any IMAP email app using your normal mailbox password. The server is imap.free.fr, and you only need an app password if you have turned on the extra account-security option at Free.

Your normal Free mailbox password works in an email app straight away.

With extra security on

Create an app password

If you enabled Free's extra security option, generate an app password and use it here instead of your normal password.

Server settings

imap.free.fr

Incoming imap.free.fr on port 993 (SSL). Outgoing smtp.free.fr on port 465 (SSL). Username is your full email address.

Open your Free account

Sign in to your Free account management in a browser and open the email or security section.

Create an app password if needed

If extra security is on, generate an app password for mail apps and give it a name you will recognize.

Use it in the email app

Paste the app password into the password field instead of your normal password.

Step by step

Add Free to Patriot Mail

Open Add Account

Go to Settings, then Accounts, then Add New Account.

Enter your free.fr address

Type your full email address. Patriot Mail fills in the Free server settings for you.

Enter your password

Use your normal password, or the app password if extra security is on, then continue. Your inbox starts loading.

Other apps

Add Free to Apple Mail on iPhone or Mac

Add a new account

On iPhone open Settings, then Mail, then Accounts, then Add Account. On Mac open Mail, then Settings, then Accounts. Choose Other Mail Account.

Enter your details

Enter your name, your full free.fr address, and your password (or app password). If Apple Mail cannot verify it automatically, enter the servers by hand.

Enter the Free servers

Incoming (IMAP): imap.free.fr. Outgoing (SMTP): smtp.free.fr. Username is your full email address.

Free server settings

  • Incoming (IMAP): imap.free.fr, port 993, SSL
  • Outgoing (SMTP): smtp.free.fr, port 465, SSL
  • Username: your full free.fr email address
  • Password: your normal password, or an app password if extra security is on

If it will not connect

  • If you have Free's extra security on, use an app password, not your normal password.
  • Check the address is typed correctly with no spaces.
  • Confirm the servers are imap.free.fr and smtp.free.fr over SSL.
