Frontier Email IMAP Settings and Setup

Frontier handed its email to Yahoo, so a frontier.com or frontiernet.net address is now a Yahoo mailbox. It works with Patriot Mail using Yahoo's servers and an app password created in Yahoo account security.

Patriot Mail fills these in for you. They are here for any other app that asks, and so you can check what you were given.

Worth knowing

The old Frontier servers are gone

Instructions naming imap.frontier.com no longer work. Your mail is on Yahoo's servers now, and those are the names to enter.

The app password comes from Yahoo

Create it in Yahoo account security, not on the Frontier website. Frontier support cannot help with the mailbox any more.

How to connect Frontier Mail

Open Yahoo account security

Create an app password

Generate one for mail, name it so you recognize it later, and copy the 16 characters.

Add the account to Patriot Mail

Choose Add account, enter your full Frontier address, and paste the app password rather than your own.

Frontier Mail and Patriot Mail

What are the IMAP settings for Frontier email?

imap.mail.yahoo.com on port 993 with SSL for incoming mail, and smtp.mail.yahoo.com on port 465 with SSL for outgoing mail. Your username is your full Frontier address.

Why do Frontier settings point at Yahoo?

Frontier moved its email service to Yahoo, so the mailbox itself is a Yahoo mailbox with a Frontier address on it.

Where do I create the app password?

In Yahoo account security, signed in with your Frontier address. The Frontier website no longer manages the mailbox.

Will connecting Frontier to Patriot Mail change my address?

No. Your frontier.com or frontiernet.net address stays exactly as it is.

Keep your Frontier Mail address

Patriot Mail connects the mailbox you already have. Your address does not change, your mail stays with Frontier Mail, and it is free to use.
