Connect GMX Email with IMAP

GMX (gmx.com, gmx.net, gmx.de) works with Patriot Mail and any IMAP email app using your normal password. The one extra step: POP3/IMAP access is turned off by default and has to be switched on in GMX web settings first.

Step one

Turn on POP3/IMAP

Enable POP3/IMAP access in GMX web settings. Until you do, every email app is refused.

Password

No app password needed

Once IMAP is on, your normal GMX password works in the email app. There is no separate app password to create.

Server settings

imap.gmx.com

Incoming imap.gmx.com on port 993 (SSL). Outgoing mail.gmx.com on port 465 (SSL). Username is your full email address.

Step 1 - Required

Turn on POP3/IMAP in GMX

Open GMX web settings

Sign in at gmx.com in a browser and open the settings. You cannot change this from an email app.

Open E-Mail, then POP3 & IMAP

Go to the E-Mail section and open the POP3 & IMAP settings.

Turn on IMAP access

Enable IMAP access and save. Now continue in your email app.

Step by step

Add GMX to Patriot Mail

Open Add Account

Go to Settings, then Accounts, then Add New Account.

Enter your GMX address

Type your full email address. Patriot Mail fills in the GMX server settings for you.

Enter your password

Use your normal GMX password, then continue. Your inbox starts loading.

Other apps

Add GMX to Apple Mail on iPhone or Mac

Add a new account

On iPhone open Settings, then Mail, then Accounts, then Add Account. On Mac open Mail, then Settings, then Accounts. Choose Other Mail Account.

Enter your details

Enter your name, your full GMX address, and your password. If Apple Mail cannot verify it automatically, enter the servers by hand.

Enter the GMX servers

Incoming (IMAP): imap.gmx.com. Outgoing (SMTP): mail.gmx.com. Username is your full email address.

GMX server settings

  • Incoming (IMAP): imap.gmx.com, port 993, SSL
  • Outgoing (SMTP): mail.gmx.com, port 465, SSL
  • Username: your full GMX email address
  • Password: your normal GMX password (after enabling IMAP)

If it will not connect

  • Confirm POP3/IMAP access is switched on in GMX settings (the most common cause).
  • Check the address is typed correctly with no spaces.
  • Confirm the servers are imap.gmx.com and mail.gmx.com.
