Connect Mail.ru Email with IMAP

Mail.ru works with Patriot Mail and any IMAP email app, but with one firm rule: your normal web password never works in an email app. You must create an app password in Mail.ru account security and use that instead. This covers mail.ru, bk.ru, inbox.ru, and list.ru addresses.

Create an app password

Generate an app password in Mail.ru account security. It is required for every email app, not just when two-factor is on.

Then connect

Use that password here

Sign in with your full Mail.ru address and the app password you generated.

Server settings

imap.mail.ru

Incoming imap.mail.ru on port 993 (SSL). Outgoing smtp.mail.ru on port 465 (SSL). Username is your full email address.

Open Mail.ru account security

Sign in to Mail.ru in a browser and open the account security settings.

Generate a password for external apps and copy it.

Use it in the email app

Paste that app password into the password field here.

Step by step

Add Mail.ru to Patriot Mail

Open Add Account

Go to Settings, then Accounts, then Add New Account.

Enter your address

Type your full Mail.ru address. Patriot Mail fills in the Mail.ru server settings for you.

Enter the app password

Use the app password you generated, then continue.

Other apps

Add Mail.ru to Apple Mail on iPhone or Mac

Add a new account

On iPhone open Settings, then Mail, then Accounts, then Add Account. On Mac open Mail, then Settings, then Accounts. Choose Other Mail Account.

Enter your details

Enter your name, your full Mail.ru address, and the app password. Enter the servers by hand if needed.

Enter the Mail.ru servers

Incoming (IMAP): imap.mail.ru. Outgoing (SMTP): smtp.mail.ru. Username is your full email address.

Mail.ru server settings

  • Incoming (IMAP): imap.mail.ru, port 993, SSL
  • Outgoing (SMTP): smtp.mail.ru, port 465, SSL
  • Username: your full Mail.ru address
  • Password: an app password from account security

If it will not connect

  • Use an app password, never your normal web password.
  • Check the address is typed correctly with no spaces.
  • Confirm the servers are imap.mail.ru and smtp.mail.ru.
