Connect Zoho Mail with IMAP

Zoho Mail works with Patriot Mail and any IMAP email app. Two things to know: IMAP access is off by default and must be turned on in Zoho settings, and if two-factor authentication is on you need an app-specific password instead of your normal one.

Step one

Turn on IMAP access

Enable IMAP in Zoho Mail settings. Until you do, every email app is refused.

If two-factor is on

App-specific password

With two-factor authentication on, create an app-specific password in Zoho and use it here instead of your normal one.

Server settings

imap.zoho.com or imap.zoho.eu

Incoming on port 993 (SSL), outgoing on port 465 (SSL). EU accounts (zoho.eu, zohomail.eu) use imap.zoho.eu instead of imap.zoho.com.

Step 1 - Required

Turn on IMAP in Zoho Mail

1

Open Zoho Mail settings

Sign in to Zoho Mail in a browser and open Settings.

2

Go to Mail Accounts, then IMAP Access

Open the Mail Accounts section and find IMAP Access.

3

Turn on IMAP access

Enable IMAP access and save, then continue in your app.

Step 2 - Only with two-factor authentication

Create an app-specific password

If you have two-factor authentication on, your normal password will not work in an email app. Create a separate app-specific password. If you do not use two-factor authentication, skip this step and use your normal password.

1

Open Zoho security settings

In your Zoho account, open the security section for app-specific passwords.

2

Create an app-specific password

Generate a new password for the email app and give it a name you will recognize.

3

Paste it into the email app

Use the app-specific password in the password field instead of your normal password.

Step by step

Add Zoho to Patriot Mail

1

Open Add Account

Go to Settings, then Accounts, then Add New Account.

2

Enter your Zoho address

Type your full email address. Patriot Mail fills in the right Zoho servers, including the EU servers for a .eu address.

3

Enter your password

Use your normal password, or the app-specific password if two-factor is on, then continue.

Other apps

Add Zoho to Apple Mail on iPhone or Mac

1

Add a new account

On iPhone open Settings, then Mail, then Accounts, then Add Account. On Mac open Mail, then Settings, then Accounts. Choose Other Mail Account.

2

Enter your details

Enter your name, your full Zoho address, and your password (or app-specific password). Enter the servers by hand if needed.

3

Enter the Zoho servers

For a .com account use imap.zoho.com and smtp.zoho.com. For a .eu account use imap.zoho.eu and smtp.zoho.eu.

Zoho server settings

  • Incoming (IMAP): imap.zoho.com (or imap.zoho.eu), port 993, SSL
  • Outgoing (SMTP): smtp.zoho.com (or smtp.zoho.eu), port 465, SSL
  • Username: your full Zoho email address
  • Password: your normal password, or an app-specific password if two-factor is on

If it will not connect

  • Confirm IMAP access is switched on in Zoho settings.
  • If two-factor is on, use an app-specific password, not your normal password.
  • For a .eu address, make sure the server is imap.zoho.eu, not imap.zoho.com.
