Connect NetEase (163, 126) Email with IMAP

NetEase mailboxes (163.com, 126.com, and yeah.net) work with Patriot Mail and any IMAP email app. Two things to know: IMAP is off until you turn it on, and NetEase gives you an authorization code that you use in place of your password.

Step one

Turn on IMAP

Enable IMAP/SMTP in NetEase mail settings. Until you do, every email app is refused.

Step two

Get an authorization code

NetEase shows an authorization code when you turn on IMAP. Use that code as your password.

Server settings

imap.163.com

Incoming imap.163.com on port 993 (SSL). Outgoing smtp.163.com on port 465 (SSL). 126.com and yeah.net use their own matching hosts.

Open NetEase mail settings

Sign in to your NetEase mailbox in a browser and open the settings.

Turn on IMAP/SMTP

Enable the IMAP/SMTP service and follow the verification.

Copy the authorization code

Copy the code NetEase shows you for the next step.

Step by step

Add NetEase to Patriot Mail

Open Add Account

Go to Settings, then Accounts, then Add New Account.

Enter your address

Type your full 163.com, 126.com, or yeah.net address. Patriot Mail fills in the matching server settings for you.

Enter the authorization code

Use the authorization code in the password field, then continue.

Other apps

Add NetEase to Apple Mail on iPhone or Mac

Add a new account

On iPhone open Settings, then Mail, then Accounts, then Add Account. On Mac open Mail, then Settings, then Accounts. Choose Other Mail Account.

Enter your details

Enter your name, your full NetEase address, and the authorization code. Enter the servers by hand if needed.

Enter the NetEase servers

For 163.com: imap.163.com and smtp.163.com. 126.com and yeah.net use imap.126.com/smtp.126.com and imap.yeah.net/smtp.yeah.net.

NetEase server settings

  • Incoming (IMAP): imap.163.com, port 993, SSL
  • Outgoing (SMTP): smtp.163.com, port 465, SSL
  • 126.com / yeah.net: swap 163.com for your own domain in the server names
  • Password: the authorization code from NetEase settings

If it will not connect

  • Confirm IMAP is switched on in NetEase settings.
  • Use the authorization code, not your normal password.
  • Make sure the server domain matches your address (163, 126, or yeah).
