Rambler Mail IMAP Settings and Setup

Rambler mail works with Patriot Mail once you switch on access for email programs. That switch is the whole story: until you flip it, Rambler turns every app away with a wrong-password message, whatever password you type.

Server settings

What to enter, if an app asks you

Patriot Mail fills these in for you. They are here for any other app that asks, and so you can check what you were given.

What is different about Rambler mail

Worth knowing

Access for email programs starts switched off

In your Rambler mail settings, open Программы (Programs) and switch access for mail clients on. Rambler asks you to confirm you are not a robot at the same time. Until this is done no email app can sign in.

Worth knowing

A blocked app looks exactly like a wrong password

Rambler says the login or password is invalid whether the password is wrong or the switch is simply off. If you are sure of your password, the switch is the thing to check first.

Worth knowing

A separate password, but only with two-step login

Only accounts with two-step login need one. Create it in your Rambler account under the mail-client option and use it here in place of your website password.

Worth knowing

Your username is your full address

Type the whole address, such as name@rambler.ru. The part before the at sign on its own is refused.

Step by step

How to connect Rambler mail

1

Switch on access for email programs first

Sign in to Rambler mail on the web, open your settings, choose Программы, and switch access for mail clients on. Confirm the not-a-robot check if it appears.

2

Enter your address

Choose Add account and type your full Rambler address. Patriot Mail fills in the servers for you.

3

Enter your password

Use your normal Rambler password. If you have two-step login switched on, create a separate password for mail programs in your Rambler account and use that instead.

4

If Rambler still says the password is wrong

Go back to the Программы page and check the switch really is on. That is the cause almost every time, and no password will get past it.

Common questions

Rambler mail and Patriot Mail

What are the IMAP settings for Rambler mail?

imap.rambler.ru on port 993 with SSL for incoming mail, and smtp.rambler.ru on port 465 for outgoing mail. Your username is your full email address, including the part after the at sign.

Why does Rambler say my password is wrong when it is not?

Almost always because mail-client access is still switched off. Rambler blocks email apps until you turn that on in your Rambler settings, and while it is off it answers every app with the same wrong-password message. Turn it on, then try again with the password you already use.

Do I need a separate password for Rambler?

Only if you have two-step login switched on. Without it, your normal Rambler password works once mail-client access is on. With it, create a separate password for mail programs in your Rambler account and use that here instead.

Will connecting Rambler to Patriot Mail change my address?

No. Patriot Mail connects to the mailbox you already have, so your address stays the same and your mail stays with Rambler.

Keep your Rambler mail address

Patriot Mail connects the mailbox you already have. Your address does not change, your mail stays with Rambler mail, and it is free to use.
